Taking Flight is a short film inspired by Antonio Pasin, inventor of the Radio Flyer wagon. In this fictional tribute to Pasin’s legacy, what begins as a small boy’s boring day with Grandpa turns into a larger-than-life journey, narrowly escaping wild monkeys and battling aliens to save the universe.

The Food Thief is a short fim project that is currently under development by Mindbender Animation Studio. We made it a goal for ourselves to create a more flexible 3D rig than anything we had done before. The solution became a rig with sliding body parts that could be turned on or of between the different poses. The rig was created with the help of the brilliant minds at Kippcase rigging studio.

mindbender.com
kippcase.com
Rich Spencehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03011847046826077126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7215777742095775541.post-87039949198727416992016-06-09T14:03:00.001+01:002016-06-09T14:04:39.716+01:00Jim McKenzie Sculpts

"Slowly Rising" suggested to me the image of the sun.

A seed was born beneath the sun, the source of all existence.

The seed absorbed the light. It created more seeds like itself, gradually increasing in number.

Time passed, but still their numbers slowly continued to rise,

and before long they were quietly swallowed up by their own shadows.

After everything that had lived had perished, nothing but an empty world remained.

There, once again, an environment where the next living things could grow silently began to spread.

Laser scanning has helped England do everything from discovering new things about Stonehenge to planning better flood infrastructure. Now, the country has made the entirety of its massive trove of scans available for free—in part because of requests from everyone from researchers to Minecraft players.

All right, so it’s not just for Minecraft, though it’s very funny to hear that fans actually appealed to the government for LIDAR data to use in the game. “Minecraft players have requested our LIDAR data to help them build virtual worlds,” the Environment Agency writes, “the data could be useful to anyone creating realistic 3D worlds.”

It’s also for anyone who could benefit from a comprehensive, high-res model of the country, including archaeologists studying Bronze Age burial sites, scientists working on climate change, and urban planners.

In fact, England’s been making its LIDAR data available for a few years. But last month, it made the entire 11-terabyte dataset available for free through an online portal. As the government’s Environment Agency points out, “that’s roughly equivalent to 2,750,000 MP3 songs.” As Prosthetic Knowledge put it this week, “you can download a country,” for free, for any use you want.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7215777742095775541.post-73123613854124612832015-10-21T11:09:00.000+01:002015-10-21T11:09:05.975+01:00A Guide To Happy

One of the biggest challenges faced by Sony Pictures Imageworks' visual effects and animation team on Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 2 was the unique style of movement that director Genndy Tartakovsky wanted to impart on the characters. Explored also on the first film, this exaggerated motion gave an incredible level of extra effect to the performances, but also meant that the artists could not always run typical physics sims for things like cloth and FX. Visual effects supervisor Karl Herbst runs through some of the those challenges, and we present two exclusive behind the scenes videos showing how Sony dealt with them.
On a desolate island, suicidal sheep Franck meets his fate in a quirky salesman, who offers him the gift of a lifetime. Little does he know that he can only handle so much lifetime. (Target audience age: 13+)

"Cosmos Laundromat" started in 2014 as an experimental feature film, in which an adventurous and absurdist love story is being told by multiple teams - each working in their own unique style. The opening of the film, the 10 minutes pilot "First Cycle", has been made in the Netherlands by the studio of Blender Institute in Amsterdam.

The film itself and all of the artwork files were made with free/open source software and are available under a permissive license. Free to share, free to remix and free to learn from.
Two Stunning Trailers for ‘Tant de Forets,’ an New Animated Short by Burcu Sakur and Geoffrey Godet.

Tant de Forets is an animated short by french illustrators and animators, Burcu Sakur and Geoffrey Godet that was released on French TV earlier this year. According the the animators, the piece is based on a poem by Jacques Prévert by the same name that “speaks of the irony of the fact that newspapers warn us about deforestation although they are made of paper themselves.” The film’s illustrative style seen in the two trailers here is unlike anything I’ve seen before, with beautiful use of color, depth, and geometry that’s somewhat reminiscent of Charley Harper in parts but with a bit more depth. If you like this, here’s an entirely different experimental piece the duo created “just for fun.”Rich Spencehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03011847046826077126noreply@blogger.com
